Psychoneuroimmunology

Don’t you just love big words? I know I do. I love sprinkling them into my conversations just to show that I know them. Sometimes it makes me feel conceited but that’s a good thing as we are about to explore why a healthy ego is so important to recovery from any life altering illness, whether breast cancer, any other cancer, heart disease or autoimmune disease..

So – psychoneuroimmunology is the study of the connection between state of mind, emotions, brain chemistry and their connection to and effects upon the immune system. I hope I got that right; it is in essence the ever popular mind/body connection.

Our first foray into this fascinating field is also my first Book Report, Getting Well Again, by O. Carl Simonton, MD; Stephanie Matthews-Simonton and James L. Creighton.  Go to the Book Report page/link above (I learned how to make pages and I am so proud of myself) and you will find the Report. It is not a critique of the work but a good old-fashioned book report that will help you determine if you want to read more.

I promise the Oxygen Connection by weekend. Until then, here’s hoping I helped even just a little.
